What cookies are and why we use them
Cookies are tiny text files that a site leaves in your browser, which lets it recognise the same browser on the next visit. Sites also use similar tools, local storage and tracking pixels for example. Here, all of them go by the name cookies, because the rules and your choices are the same for each.
Under UK law, chiefly the UK GDPR together with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), we may only set cookies that are not strictly needed after you have agreed to them. So the banner greets you on a first visit, and nothing optional loads until you have answered it.
Our banner
The banner offers three buttons. You can refuse everything optional, keep the choice you have adjusted in the settings, or accept all categories. Saying no changes nothing about what you can read or play. The welcome offer, the games and the cashier all work the same way either way.
The three categories
Each cookie we use belongs to one of three groups, the same three you see when you open the settings in the banner.
Necessary
These keep the site running, and the banner has no off switch for them. They remember the language you chose, keep your session alive from page to page, protect forms against automated abuse and store the cookie choice itself. They hold no marketing information and never track you across other sites.
Statistics
Statistics cookies tell us how many people visit, which pages they read and where they leave. The figures are grouped and we look at trends, not at individuals. They help us spot a slow page or a confusing part of the menu. These cookies only load if you switch the category on.
Campaigns
Campaign cookies record the advert or partner link you came through, so we can see which campaigns work and pay partners correctly. They can also limit how often you see the same advert. Some are set by the advertising platforms themselves, under their own privacy policies. If you leave this category off, no campaign cookie is set and you will still see the same site.
How long your choice lasts
Twelve months in your browser
Your answer is saved in your browser’s local storage under the name winplace_cookiekeuze_v1, together with the date. It is kept for 12 months. After that the banner returns and asks again, because a choice made a year ago may no longer reflect what you want. The record stays on your device; we do not need an account to know your choice.
If you clear your browser data, use a private window or switch to another device, the saved choice is not there, so you will see the banner again. That is expected and nothing is wrong.
Changing your mind
At the bottom of every page there is a footer link called “Change cookie choice”. Clicking it reopens the banner with your current settings, and you can switch statistics or campaigns on or off. A new choice replaces the old one and starts a fresh 12-month period. Once consent is withdrawn, no new optional cookies are placed; to remove ones already stored, delete them in your browser as described below.
Cookies inside the casino lobby
Game studios and payment providers
Games are served from each studio’s own servers, and the studio may set cookies needed to run the round and keep it fair. The same goes for payment pages from card processors and e-wallets, which use cookies for fraud checks. These are part of delivering the service you asked for, so they fall under necessary cookies. Their providers explain them in their own policies.
Live chat
The live chat window in the lobby uses a cookie to keep your conversation open as you move between pages. It loads when you start a chat, not before.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Blocking and deleting
In any major browser you can see, block or delete cookies, usually under settings for privacy or site data. You can block all cookies from our site or just third-party ones. Bear in mind that blocking necessary cookies will stop login and the cashier from working, and you would have to choose your language on every visit.
Mobile browsers
Winplace runs in the mobile browser and there is no app to install. If you have added the site to your home screen, it shares cookies with the browser it was added from, so settings changed there also apply to the home-screen icon.
Questions we often get about cookies
Will refusing cookies affect my bonus?
No. The welcome package is linked to your account and your deposits, not to anything stored in your browser. You still qualify for each step by paying in £20 or more and ticking the bonus box at the cashier, whatever you chose in the banner. Campaign cookies only tell us which advert or partner sent you, and leaving them off changes nothing about the offer you receive.
Are cookies used to decide game results?
No. Results come from the random number generators of the game studios, or from the cards and wheels at live tables. Cookies play no part in them, and neither does your cookie choice.
What about browser privacy signals?
Some browsers send a Global Privacy Control signal. When we receive one, we treat it as a no to campaign cookies until you tell us otherwise through the banner. Older “Do Not Track” settings are not read consistently across sites, so for those please use the banner itself to make your choice.
More information
Personal data and cookies
Some cookies contain identifiers that count as personal data. How we handle that data, how long we keep it and your rights over it are covered in our privacy policy. Questions about cookies can be sent to our support address and we will reply by email.
Updates
If we add a cookie in a new category or change what a category does, we update this page and ask for your consent again through the banner. You can tell when the policy last changed from the revision date near its title.
